Protecting & preserving nature for future generations

Capel St Andrew Farms is proud of the diverse habitats, natural beauty and wildlife that surround the areas in which it operates along the East Coast.

Committed to protecting and enhancing the abundant wildlife and diverse habitats across and surrounding the farm, we give consideration to ensure all farming operations are carefully planned to safeguard plant and animal life and their habitats. We strive to minimise our environmental impact through responsible every day practices that benefit both our immediate surroundings, wider landscape and the people that live in and enjoy the area.

Our approach includes precision application of pesticides and fertilisers using only the minimum necessary to maintain healthy crops. We fully embrace integrated crop management (ICM) principles, continuously evaluating and improving our environmental performance.

We actively seek to improve the environment and support local biodiversity. We sow wildflower margins around field boundaries, creating vital habitats and food sources for native species throughout the seasons, plant new woodlands and hedgerows, and dig scrapes for wetland birds and mammals.

Almost 40% of the farm is not cropped and made up of woodland, grassland, saltings and reed beds providing a varied landscape rich in many habitats for plants and wildlife, including SSSI’s which we help to preserve and maintain for future generations. CSAs partnership with the  RSPB helps maintain a vibrant habitat in the Butley Creek salt marshes and reed beds for overwintering and breeding birds, where Bitterns, Avocets, Marsh Harriers and occasionally a White-tailed Sea Eagle can be seen.

We have CSS and SFI agreements in place and work alongside our Contracting Farming partners with their own HSL and CSS requirements.
